The Truth About Lipsense

Dude.

A lipstick exists that really lasts all day, and I feel so blessed.
I am so excited about this lip stuff that if I was a boy, I would have the biggest boner ever erected.

I really like lip stuff.

I don't know about you, but I feel a lot more put together when I have lipstick or gloss on, even if I'm not wearing any other makeup.

My friend from high school, Dante, is a little punk and started selling this stuff on Facebook.
Now I'm addicted and can't stop buying new colors from her.
I doesn't help that she is cute, nice, and funny. She is one of those girls you really want to hate but can't since they are so cool.

I saw a demonstration similar to this:

I immediately thought, what kind of sorcery is this? I NEED IT.

So instead of buying food, diapers, and donating to charity that week I ordered lipstick..... like a good citizen.

It's called Lipsense.
I know.
Dumb name and even more horrible packaging.

A gold wand and a gold logo from late 1998?

For $25 a tube you would think the packaging would be a little more impressive. Has this company never walked into Sephora and seen how beautiful lipstick can be?

But since the product is amazing, I will excuse the tacky packaging.

Lipsense stays on ALL DAY and it's magical.
It's water-proof, smudge-proof, feather-proof, and kiss-proof.
For real.

My husband and 2 sons love that I don't leave lizard shaped kiss-prints on their faces anymore.

It's also vomit-proof, drool-proof, and baby-hitting-you-in-the-face-proof.
I may know from experience.

But there are some things you should know before buying Lipsense:

  • You HAVE to watch the tutorials before you put it on. This lip stuff is not normal, and it won't work if you just throw it on like usual lipstick.  Try this one and here
  •

  •  The first time you put on, it stings ("tingles" is what the website says, but I prefer to save this adjective for when I'm blogging about my husband) for a few seconds right when you apply it, but it's not a big deal.

  • When you first start using it, your lips might self-exfoliate or peel. Mine didn't peel, but they did get all dry/wrinkly for a few days.
The company says that your lips are exfoliating/peeling years of wax buildup from use of crappy chapsticks and other lip products.

But let's think about how absurd this is for a moment.
Years of wax build up? On my lips?
It's more likely that your lips are adjusting to the Lipsense formula and drying out since the first ingredient listed is Alcohol Denat. aka Denatured Alcohol.

Either way, this lipstick is still freaking amazing and I'm obsessed..... even if I suspect they lie about wax build-up.

  • You can buy a bunch of different lipsticks and layer them to create custom colors and it's awesome. You can even find dupes for MAC lipstick colors online.

  • When you order, DO NOT go to the Lipsense website to preview colors.
Their website is crappy and the colors they show don't match the actual product at all. Instead google it or look colors up on Pinterest. You can also look up this girls Facebook page, but she looks great in every color so lets all secretly hate her while simultaneously having a girl crush on her.

  • You are only supposed to use Lipsense Brand lip gloss over the lip color.
It does work great and extend the life of the lip color, but it's $20. I am a lip gloss whore and like to use and abuse it.You are supposed to wear their gloss or balms all the time. Even at night and when you aren't wearing the color.

I usually do whatever I want, so I rebel and only use the gloss when I have the color on.
And guess what? I still feel ok about myself.

Just make sure when you aren't wearing the color, the lip stuff you use is moisturizing and contains ingredients like shea butter or jojoba oil.

Any gloss or chapstick with mint in it jacked up the Lipsense colors pretty bad.
Lip Smackers also messes it up.

Ultimately, the Lipsense gloss works the best and it's nice to have some around, but it's ok if you don't use it all the time.
(They do have a matte gloss that I want to try and I'm pissed off because it's sold out right now. #1stworldproblems)

  • Only use the Oops! Remover for little mistakes you make while applying your color.

Using it at the to remove all of the lipstick takes forever, wastes product, and is a pain in the face. It also costs $10. Use a washcloth and Neutrogena Facial Cleansing Bar.

It's fast and only costs $3. Save the Oops Remover for application mistakes only.
BTW, the Remover comes in the starter kit for really cheap so if you get that, it's enough to last you for a loooonnnnggg time.

  • Lipsense lasts a whole lot longer than regular lipstick since you are only applying it once a day.

Less product used = Less money spent on lipstick.
Then you can buy more Lipsense.

  • I especially like that it smells medicinal. There is no way my kids are going to eat this stuff, which means I automatically just saved a ton of money and anger.

This is a big deal for me. I don't even want to think about how much money I've spent on lip stuff that my kids have ruined and/or eaten.

  • Lipsense dries fast and has no taste.
It's also surprisingly comfortable to wear. I assumed it would feel weird since it is so different from every other lip product, but it feels like a normal gloss or chapstick does.

AND how can you resist supporting a company that rewards it's sassy adult sales team with tiaras, sashes, and a throne?

I know I can't resist!

I am going back and forth on whether I want to sell it or not.
Mostly I want to sell it because I want the distributor discount.

But I am also too straight forward about the gloss and remover so I don't know if it would be worth it since I'd be talking people out of buying product.

Ugh. But I really want that discount.

.....And a sassy sales team tiara.
Just kidding, I already have a tiara from the party supply store.

But until then, if you want to buy any, you can go on their 1990's looking website and find a distributor near you or let me know and I will get Dante your info, she can ship anywhere and is really fast and prompt.

If I end up selling it, I will let you guys know and I could hook you guys up with some sort of deal.

Because what is better than everything-proof lipstick?
Getting a discount.

UPDATE:

You better can buy it from me!

Ugh, this stuff is too awesome not to buy a ton of it.
So I gave in and signed up as a distributor.

Check out my lame Facebook group page and I'll add you as a member. You can also comment or email me with questions and/or orders.
I ship anywhere in the U.S. and provide tracking numbers.

I'll hook you up with the starter kit for $50 instead of $55  if you mention that you read my blog or admit to laughing when small children say the "F" word.

Look at the lame video I had to make for the facebook page:

Don't judge me, jerks.

Even if you don't buy it from me, you have to try this stuff if you wear lipstick.
I apologize in advance for introducing you to this. It's addicting.

  2. I am so happy to have read your post! I just started selling lipsense too, and can relate to all your thoughts. Thank you for being real about it! Too many people focused on business and sales (understandably) - sometimes you need an even more honest take on the product. What we're selling is so legit, but its good to know the "cheats". At least I think so.

    So thanks.

  3. This is seriously the best thing I've ever read...well as far as reviews go! ;) I just bought my first 3 colors and I can already tell that just won't be enough. Mind you, this is coming from someone who has never really been a "lip stick" kind of momma! The realness of this is perfection! Thanks a bunch!

  4. First of all, my kid says you're a f-ing riot (ok, I said it, but he uses the f word a lot). I have worked in the beauty industry most of my teen and adult life and think they are NUTS the way they run the company 2 colors available out of 146 and rarely a gloss to lock the color, no sample kit option for their distributers (because some jerks had to spoil it for EVERYBODY), my first order took 3 WEEKS to get, the crappy packaging, etc, you know, the struggle is real and the list is LONG. The stuff is some amazing sorcery, I can't even lie, I just want in to the company to fix the long and illustrious list of issues. I think it tastes like chemicls and that could be the deal breaker for me, still undecided. Best of luck in your ventures, YOU may get my next order just because you have the most real and honest (and witty) presentation of the FAQs around!! P.S. ladies, Emily is offering you a heck of a deal, normally the lipsense color is $25 + "MANDITORY" Gloss $20 + OOPS $10 = $55 and the starter pack, including all 3 is the raging deal of, wait for it $55?!? Emily is taking $5 off, best deal around!!! SERIOUSLY I like your style and humor, GO GET EM SISTER!!!!

  5. I love your honesty. I am so hooked on this stuff, but when I read it's "tingling" because it's responding to years of wax build up???? It's burning because it's alcohol!!!! I'm not stupid. I've shed so much skin off of my lips, there's no build up there. Believe me! As much as I try to do natural things and not cause undue harm, this product is so addictive and works so well, I have given in and use it daily. I just hope my lips don't have some long-term damage. I do keep them moisturized and I do use other things---not always their gloss. I use other glosses sometimes, but I keep applying it all day to keep my lips from drying out. I also use the Neutrogena soap for removal and sleep in shea butter on my lips. I never have purchased the Oops Remover. I am pretty adept and don't usually make application mistakes, but if I do, I use a q tip and any oil (coconut, argan, jojoba). Thanks for your honesty and humor!!!!!

  6. Thanks for the honest tips!! I hope you do well :)

I think I'm allergic 🤦🏼‍♀️😢 Doh! But I love the idea of the product and wish no one ill will. I have super sensitive, fair colored skin so if there's an allergy to be had, well... i get it! Haha

    Best of luck :)

  7. The only thing I disagree with is that it does have a taste and it's horrible. I love this lipstick, but refuse to wear it because it ruins anything I eat. I have never had that problem before.

  8. Since you can't use Lipsense, try Revlon Color Stay. Half the price of Lipsense, the gloss in included, and you can get it at Walgreens. I bought some Lipsense to help put a friend, and to get so different colors.

  9. What do you do when the lipstick gets to the end of its life and gets "gummy"? It's gotten so thick that it doesn't stay on for more than 3 hours without getting that "rolling" feeling, and then it's all over from there. Even when glossing like crazy. Because it's "gummy" it gets stringy and application is a nightmare. I'm so sad that my Cranberry, Kiss for a Cause and Heartbreaker have turned to goo.

Any tips on thinbing it out?

    1. Mine haven't gotten gummy yet, but my Heartbreaker is starting to. I wonder if the oops! remover would thin it out? I'll have to try it and let you guys know.

  10. A problem I have with Lipsense is it makes my lips stick together, and feel very dry. This happens whether I use tge matte or shiny gloss. This happen to anyone else?

    1. As soon as I put the gloss on, my stickiness goes away. The only thing I can think of is that you might be putting the 3 layers on too thick. Try using really thin layers and let me know if that helps because now I'm curious :)

    2. It's for my colors that are at the end of their life. So I'm wondering if having the tube in and out after a period of time?
I'm going to try the Oops Remover idea. It may work like when thinning out mascara? Will keep in touch.

    3. mine too!!! no matter how thin i apply. I stand in front of a fan and try to dry each layer for 2 or 3 minutes... it feels dry... i put on the gloss. then in about 10 minutes i start to feel my lips cement to each other, and the little wrinkles in my lips are getting stuck together and that cracks the lipsense, it pops off in flakes and rolls. if I can get it to last 3 hours it's an everloving miracle. i've honestly never tried a lipstick that is so hard to use and lasts so poorly. at least with others you can rub your lips together to spread and rejuvinate the color... i spent out for 3 colors of this stuff and it takes waaaaay to long to apply, and doesn't last well. my sales rep is trying to work with me to figure out what's wrong but honestly i rarely wear any makeup at all and this feels like it's so not worth the time and effort involved. i just wanted some color to wear for special occasions and maybe 2x per week to step up my makeup game.

try adding rubbing alcohol to your sticky gummy ones. that might be all it takes to rejuvinate it!

    4. I kind of want you to to Skype or Facetime me to see exactly how you are putting it on. I know some people who can get Lipsense to stay on either and it's weird since it works great for my dumbass. And let's be real, no one is a bigger dumbass than me <3

    5. Also, what colors did you buy? The matte ones are useless to me since I can't apply them without them being streaky, too thick, and looking like a kid put it on me.

  15. First ingredient is Alcohol Denat (aka denatured alcohol or ethanol) which is super damaging to skin. Draws out moisture from your skin. The sales pitch for Lipsense is that it's "exfoliating your lips" but actually is drying and chapping them. This same type of alcohol use used as a fuel for camping stoves and such. Sounds safe...

It's also used as a solvent to keep certain types of paints and shellac liquified. Evaporation from the bottles of Lipsense is why it's getting gummy. More denatured alcohol will liquify it again. You can pick up a can of it at your local hardware store. Usually they will also recommend buying latex gloves to use while working with! Makes a lot is "sense"!

  16. Question regarding peeling/flaking of my lips when I use any other gloss besides glossy. It doesn't matter what color I use but anytime I use a colored gloss, a few hours later, my lips start peeling and feel terrible. Do you know I prevent this from happening so I can use my other gloss colors? Thanks!
